All four lines share Malarkey’s NEX® Polymer Modified (Rubberized) Asphalt technology, but they are not interchangeable. Highlander® emphasizes value, Vista® is a popular Class 4 architectural choice, Legacy® moves to a higher-profile architectural look, and Windsor® is the designer/dimensional option.
| Line | Profile | Impact rating | Key reason to consider it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Highlander® AR | Architectural | Class 3 | Value-oriented entry into Malarkey NEX® rubberized asphalt shingles |
| Vista® AR | Architectural | Class 4 | Class 4 impact performance in a mainstream architectural profile |
| Legacy® Scotchgard™ | High-profile architectural | Class 4 | More pronounced appearance plus Scotchgard™ algae-resistance features |
| Windsor® Scotchgard™ | Designer / dimensional | Class 4 | Most dimensional look for roofs that are a strong architectural feature |
Start with the home, not the brochure
Roof pitch, roof visibility, house style, brick or siding color, surrounding trees, storm exposure and budget should shape the choice. A product with the highest specification is not automatically the most appropriate if the homeowner values a simpler profile or needs to direct budget to decking, ventilation or flashing corrections.
Highlander® AR: value-focused
Highlander® AR is Malarkey’s more economical architectural line and carries a Class 3 hail impact rating. It gives homeowners access to NEX® rubberized asphalt technology without automatically moving to the Class 4 or higher-profile lines.
Vista® AR: mainstream Class 4 option
Vista® AR is positioned by Malarkey as a popular architectural shingle and carries a Class 4 hail impact rating. It is often the logical comparison point for homeowners who want Class 4 impact performance without prioritizing the heavier look of Legacy® or the designer profile of Windsor®.
Legacy® Scotchgard™: high-profile architectural
Legacy® Scotchgard™ adds a more pronounced architectural appearance, Class 4 impact rating and Scotchgard™ Protector algae-resistance features. It is a strong fit to evaluate on homes where the roof is visually prominent and the homeowner wants a heavier architectural look.
Windsor® Scotchgard™: designer profile
Windsor® Scotchgard™ is Malarkey’s dimensional designer shingle in this group, with Class 4 impact performance and Scotchgard™ Protector. It can change the visual character of a home more than a conventional architectural shingle, so color and profile deserve careful review.
Do not compare shingles without comparing the system
Underlayment, water barriers, starter, valleys, flashing, penetrations, ventilation, ridge caps, deck repairs and installation details can affect long-term performance as much as the field shingle. Ask for a written scope that names the important components and explains how hidden damage is handled.
